Motorcycle Helmets - Be Aware Of Modifications

By: Jeff D McQueen

The growing number of people who are hooked in motorcycling is noticeable thesedays. In fact, statistics can indicate a steady increase in the number of motorcycle owners all around the world. A motorbike can make a person look cool, especially for guys, or a more convenient and affordable transportation option for commuters.

The statistic of motorbike owners can also indicate an increased production of motorcycle helmets.A motorbike is an open vehicle so you have the least amount of protective shield in times of accidents. Hence, the government made it mandatory to wear helmets to lessen head injury occurrences that can result to death. And in buying helmets, a recommended rule is to buy the new ones instead of second hand headgears.

Second hand helmets cost less than the new ones so most buyers prefer to buy them. A lot of times, riders want to buy customized helmets that really caught their attention. The problem is these customized helmets can compromise your safety. Primarily, modification may lower its quality.First of all, there are some who customized their helmets to get additional comfort or ventilation.

They drill holes since they think the vents are not enough for them. The problem in doing this is drilling may cause cracks on the helmet and making it have lower quality than its original state. Most of the time, the cracks are not superficial but on the middle or inner layer. This means that the helmet may look okay but the quality is starting to be a problem underneath. There are some helmets that start to break just because of having these cracks.

Second, there are some people who love customizing helmets using paint. They may like a plain helmet at first but eventually got bored with it. This will cause them to use paints to change its looks. Some artistic individuals would create new designs with paint but no matter how artistic it is, it can also be the start of damages found on it. Some may have chosen the wrong type of paint for their helmets.

They may react and start to weaken the main helmet material. But aside from choosing the paint, application procedure can also be one damage cause on these helmets. Some owners may remove components just to apply the paint easily on its surface. The problem with this is the security of these components will not be the same compared to leaving it untouched. Hence, you may have placed the screws tightly but they are not as tight as what they used to be coming from manufacturers.

If you want to buy a customized helmet that will meet your preference, the best option for youis to buy the brand new ones but with designs suitable to your taste. Customizing these helmets is done with the right manufacturer's procedure so you are assured that the design is great without sacrificing its quality.

They also passed quality standards to ensure that they only sell quality helmets to their clients. In conclusion, buying second hand motorcycle helmets will save you money but don't do it just because of its modifications. No matter how you love its design, this will not guarantee its quality so better get the new ones with the design of your choice or get the second hand ones without modifications.
